Globe to charge P50 late fees by Dec. 1
Start getting used to online payment options and set up your payment schedules as Globe Telecom Inc. will be incurring a penalty fee for late remittances starting Dec. 1, 2023.
Globe announced on Tuesday, Oct. 31, that starting Dec. 1, 2023, a P50 penalty fee will be charged to payments made after the due date of mobile postpaid, broadband postpaid, and Platinum subscribers.
The advisory sent out to subscribers also said: “We encourage you to pay on time to keep your services active.”
Globe clarified in a statement issued on Friday that the new policy will only apply to postpaid users, who account for less than 5% of its total customer base.
This triggered progression groups Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) and Bayan Muna who are urging the company to consider not pushing through with the policy.
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro argued that since using a smartphone and internet access is now regarded as necessary, imposing this penalty would be inconvenient.
The lawmaker emphasized, “It is a public utility that should be primarily for the public good and not mainly for profit.”
Bayan Muna Chairman Neri Colmenares also took concern with Globe's extra charge, pointing out that Filipinos still need help with the cost of living hikes.
“Sumosobra naman na ata ang pagkaganid sa tubo ng Globe Telecom maski hirap na hirap na ang mga Pilipino sa taas ng bilihin ngayon,” he stressed.
The telecommunications provider reiterated that it has consistently refused to charge customers late fees, even though they are stipulated in the terms and conditions of their postpaid customer agreement.
Globe advised using the online payment options available to its postpaid customers to avoid paying the fee. If the due date comes on a weekend or holiday, customers are urged to settle the bills through outlets that offer same-day payment posting.
