60-year-old lawyer Alejandra Rodríguez crowned Miss Universe Buenos Aires
In a historic win, Alejandra Rodríguez was crowned Miss Universe Buenos Aires and is set to compete for Miss Universe Argentina 2024.
The 60-year-old beauty queen is a lawyer and journalist by profession who grew up in a town called La Pata, in Buenos Aires.
In the recent pageant, Rodriguez triumphed over 34 other contestants aged between 18 to 73 years old.
Iris Amelia Alioto, a competitor in the Miss Universe Argentina-Buenos Aires pageant, made headlines as she was 72 years old when she joined this year's competition.
After her win, Rodríguez told members of the press that she is thrilled to represent the “new paradigm in beauty pageants” where women are introduced to borderless possibilities beyond physical beauty. She is the very first 60-year-old pageant contestant to earn the title.
She told HOLA! USA that joining beauty pageants has always fascinated her, but motherhood at a young age prevented her from turning her dreams into reality.
However, the changes in terms of inclusivity within the Miss Universe Organization have opened the doors for Rodríguez to pursue her shelved dream.
In September 2023, the Miss Universe Organization announced that it no longer requires an age limit for the contestants. Prior to this change, pageant participation was limited to contestants between the ages of 18 to 28.
Rodríguez expressed that she is focused on winning the next pageant as she will vie for Miss Universe Argentina 2024 on May 25.
