Influencer’s son dies at 22 months old after mirror falls on him

Published Apr 02, 2025 9:50 am

An influencer's 22-month-old baby died after a large mirror fell on him.

Social media personality Lindsay Dewey detailed the tragic accident in her Instagram stories, saying that it happened when her son Reed "had one of his suction cup bowls and stuck it on the mirror and was pulling it 'back and forth' to pry it off (we're assuming) and he pulled the mirror down on himself."

"I never even heard him playing by/with the mirror until I heard it fall and then within five seconds, I lifted it off of him," she wrote.

Noting that the mirror was "heavy-duty," Lindsay said she was "confused as to how it happened" at first as there was "no way our kids are strong enough to move it, let alone pull it down on themselves."

"It seemed impossible for it to just randomly fall down for no reason considering its placement and weight. But when I picked it up and leaned it back on the wall, I noticed his bowl was stuck to it ... I figured out EXACTLY how it happened," she continued.

When Lindsay was able to lift the mirror up, she saw Reed with his "eyes open but not crying," which initially made her feel "relieved thinking he must've been okay, just in shock or something."

"But no, he was not the Reed I knew," she recalled. "Based on how he was acting, I immediately knew something was VERY wrong and that it was serious but never did we expect it to be so serious that he wouldn't survive it. The mirror hit his head in the most precise way and fractured his skull."

Lindsay said Reed suffered severe traumatic brain injury, which "usually results from a violent blow or jolt to the head or body," according to health information website Mayo Clinic. He fell into a coma, and was declared dead later on.

She opened up about "replaying it in my mind too often" and how she and her husband Eric are "still in complete shock that this is what took our baby from us."

The influencer said she decided to share what happened to raise awareness. "We don't want this happening to anybody," she stressed. "A few close people we've told literally started naming off items in their house that weren't anchored, and it hit home for them because they literally could've been in our situation."
