Did you know that there's such thing as "The Laziest Citizen" contest? The Balkan country of Montenegro is holding it annually. This 2023, the competition entered its 30th day on Sept. 19, breaking last year's 24-day record.

Local news website The Balkan Insight reported that five contestants are still in bed, hoping to win 1,000 euros (P60,000) for being in bed for so long.

The contest started last Aug. 19 with 21 hopefuls at a holiday resort in Brezna village.

The fan favorite is a 21-year-old from Serbia.

Resort owner Radonja Blagojevic, who organized the competition, said the participants are "interesting personalities."

“They are a great team and some friendships will remain there,” Blagojevic is quoted as saying.

Contest rules state that participants are given three meals a day and may have a 15-minute toilet break every eight hours. The break only started in 2021.

The only thing they have to do is, well, nothing but lie down.

Standing or sitting down outside their toilet break means immediate disqualification.

The contest was first held in the country in 2001.

Most competitors are from Montenegro, though there are participants from neighboring Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia, as well as Russia and Ukraine.
