Free museum day: Ayala Museum is opening its doors free of charge this May 27
In celebration of International Museum Day (IMD) on May 18, Ayala Museum and its Filipinas Heritage Library are opening its doors for free on May 27.
With this year’s theme of “The Power of Museums”, Ayala Museum will be highlighting the impact of museums to transform the world and bring about positive change through onsite and online activities.
This 2022 will also serve as their first time to celebrate IMD amid the pandemic.
Onsite, the Makati museum will be welcoming patrons free of charge on May 27, from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM. The museum currently has a soft opening rate of P350 per person.
Two new exhibition experiences will be launched during the IMD celebration: First is the "Diorama Dialogue," a new segment located in the existing Dioramas of Philippine History exhibit.
The extension is curated by Manuel Quezon III and aims to expand the diversity of the dioramas by contextualizing the depicted events and bringing them to contemporary culture.
Another new addition is the Filipinas Heritage Library’s "Liberation: War & Hope". The free exhibition centers on stories from the life of everyday Filipinos before, during, and post-war.
Slots for May 27 will be limited and released through Ayala Museum’s website on May 26 at 4 PM on a first-come, first-served basis.
For those unable to visit the museum in person, Ayala Museum will be hosting a free interactive virtual tour of its “Dioramas of Philippine History” exhibition through the social platform, Gather.Town wherein guests can control an avatar and explore a 2D render of Ayala Museum and all 60 of its historical dioramas.
The virtual space will be open to visit anytime from May 27 up to June 27, 2022.
