Hong Kong-bound flight returns to Boston after smoke fills cabin and cockpit
A flight bound for Hong Kong had to go back to Boston shortly after takeoff following a report of smoke in the cabin and cockpit.
NBC Boston reported that Cathay Pacific flight CX811 "made a precautionary flight return" to Boston Logan International Airport on Monday, Jan. 20, "in accordance with standard procedures," after smoke was seen in the cockpit and cabin.
According to a New York Post report, data from FlightAware showed that the plane circled over Massachusetts Bay before returning and landing safely at the airport at around 3:31 a.m.
The airline company said that there were no injuries reported. Airline engineers are now conducting an investigation and doing inspections following the incident.
A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said they provided regular updates about the status of the flight and that they will continue to assist their passengers moving forward.
"Safety guides every decision we make. We sincerely apologize to the affected customers for the inconvenience,” they noted.
