Tom Rodriguez says he 'had to take time to recover' in the US following divorce from Carla Abellana
Following his separation from Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez took a two-year hiatus from showbiz and spent time in the United States to prioritize his well-being.
“Two weeks lang dapat ako nando'n. Nawili din ako. Long story short, I really had to take time to really recover,” Tom told GMA News. “And now, I do feel na buo na ako ulit.”
Tom returned to the Philippines early this year for a new project in the theater industry, i.e., the concert version of Ibarra: The Musical.
"I'm glad na they offered me this role,” he said. “I’ve been really yearning to be back into theater and napagbigyan uli.”
The 36-year-old actor said he’s also trying to return to social media, with his team trying to recover his Instagram account as he had deactivated it.
"I'm on TikTok din… I'm trying to push myself to go out of my ermitanyo mode," he said.
During his hiatus, Tom said he started taking responsibility for himself, including household maintenance, cooking, laundry, grocery, and couponing.
He last appeared in the 2021 teleserye The World Between Us, which starred Alden Richards and Jasmine Curtis Smith.
Tom and Carla got married in October 2021 after a seven-year relationship.
Tom, who has American citizenship, announced their divorce in June 2022 without getting into much detail about their split.
The following October, he flew to Arizona in the United States.
In a February 2023 guesting on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Carla said she has forgiven Tom. She noted months later that she has "definitely" put their past relationship behind her for good as she has finally found her peace.
