'It's Showtime' makes fired-up comeback after 12-day suspension
Kapamilya noontime program It's Showtime is back after being off the air for 12 days.
The show, produced by ABS-CBN and aired through GMA Network's GTV channel, made its comeback today, Oct. 28, after serving the suspension imposed by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on the show on Oct. 14.
The hosts of It's Showtime started the episode with a bang, with Vice Ganda performing a danceable version of Danny Gokey's The Comeback. This was followed by Ogie Alcasid, Jhong Hilario, Ion Perez, Ryan Bang, and Teddy Corpuz singing Billy Ocean's hit When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Gets Going.
Meanwhile, Amy Perez and Kim Chiu danced to Britney Spears' Stonger, with Karylle belting out the song. Anne Curtis also gave out posh '90s vibes to the show's "Madlang Pipol," with her performance of the Spice Girls' hit Who Do You Think You Are.
Today's opening act concluded with all hosts raising their hands up to Backstreet Boys' Larger Than Life. Vice later connected the song to their show's comeback, as she described it to be "larger than life."
Vice, who has since fronted the show's lineup of star-studded hosts, expressed how much they all missed being on It's Showtime in her welcoming remarks.
"Yes we're back and we missed you so much, Madlang Pipol," the 47-year-old TV personality quipped.
"Tapos na ang 12 days, na-miss natin ang isa't-isa, comback is realz," she joked. "So eto na, magkakasama na naman tayo ulit, tuloy-tuloy ang kasiyahan natin, sabay-sabay tayong ngingiti, sabay-sabay tayong hahalakhak, sabay-sabay tayong magdiriwang at sabay-sabay kakapit sa pag-asa sa araw-araw ngayon."
Jhong, in addition, put a spotlight on It's You Lucky Day, which served as the replacement for It's Showtime during its suspension.
Similar to It's Showtime, the new show featured fresh game-and-variety segments hosted by Luis Manzano, Robi Domingo, Jennica Garcia, and Melai Cantiveros.
"Of course, sa It's Your Lucky Day, maraming, maraming salamat po," Jhong said. "Dahil tinuloy niyo ang pagbibigay says sa mga madlang la-lucky. Syempre si Luis Manzano and the lucky stars, maraming, maraming salamat. Saludo kami sa inyo!"
MTRCB issued the suspension order to It's Showtime on Sept. 4 after receiving multiple complaints concerning the show's July 25 episode, where Vice and Ion allegedly “acted in an indecent manner” during its "Isip Bata" segment.
The show's producer, ABS-CBN Corporation, on the same day, retaliated with a Motion for Reconsideration on the belief that "there was no violation of pertinent law."
Three weeks later, on Sept. 28, MTRCB denied GMA Network and ABS-CBN's Motion for Reconsideration. One week later, on Oct. 6, ABS-CBN announced that it has decided to yield to the agency's decision to temporarily suspend It's Showtime.
