Bahay Pangulo: Take a look inside the resort-like presidential address after its renovation
Amid his jam-packed schedules, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. can now rest in the newly renovated “Bahay Pangulo,” which is nothing but a little paradise amid the bustling streets of Manila.
Formerly known as "Bahay Pangarap," the resort-like presidential house was recently revealed for the first time after its renovation that started shortly after Marcos assumed office in 2022. According to architect Conrad Onglao, it needed a makeover after it was destroyed by termites and flooding from the previous years.
The property now boasts lush green lawns with tropical plants adorning every corner. There are also water fountains in the walkway and lounge chairs near the large swimming pool.
During a special tour with the press, Onglao recalled First Lady Liza Marcos saying she wanted it to "feel like a resort."
“Ang gusto lang ni First Lady noon, sabi niya, 'Conrad, I want you to make it feel like a resort.' Kasi ‘yun din ‘yung idea from the beginning: So, the President can relax. Sabi niya, siyempre pagdating ni Presidente, pagod siya, parang gusto lang niya nare-relax. So, that was the premise,” he said.
The compound has a main house, pavilion, pool gazebo, personnel quarters, and a gym complete with equipment, including a car racing simulator. It also has a large kitchen, laundry area, study room, as well as a lanai with billiards, darts, board games, and an arcade machine.
The overall look of the property is modern Filipino, with most of it consisting of locally made wooden furniture. It likewise features displays of paintings by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo and other artworks owned by the government.
Other notable pieces in the area include the Kayserburg piano and chandeliers in the living area and pavilion.
Marcos and his wife are the only ones who are staying in the property, but their family members would visit every Sunday so they can attend mass together and strengthen their ties.
Onglao didn’t reveal how much the overall renovation cost, but noted that they were “very conscious about the budget.”
He added that they also implemented engineering solutions to avoid getting flooded especially since it’s just beside Pasig River by raising its elevation and putting pumps that can eject flood water.
Onglao assured that the whole property can now withstand typhoons and earthquakes in the next 20 to 50 years.
