Turning innovation into impact
PhilSTAR Media Group has been a strong advocate of sustainability. Among the organization’s projects is “Project KaLIKHAsan,” an initiative that promotes sustainability efforts in communities and industries.
In recent years, we have seen many innovations that can help solve problems in our communities. However, these solutions face economic, environmental, and social barriers. As a result, their applications remain limited, fragmented, and often small-scale.
Project KaLIKHAsan aims to bridge this gap by transforming insight into action. It does this by “creating a platform for innovators, implementers, enablers, and communities to connect, collaborate, and scale solutions that address sustainability problems most relevant to the Philippines.”
This year, PMG relaunched the project in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development.
PCAARRD and PMG officially signed the memorandum of understanding on August 11, 2026, during the fellowship night following PCAARRD’s Agri-Aqua Innovation Pitch Fest.
The AIPF is one of PCAARRD’s biggest events, wherein several technologies and innovations from startups and academic institutions are presented. The event acts as a gateway for scientists to receive support from different sectors for their products—potentially helping communities solve their problems and find opportunities toward progress.
PCAARRD values the Project KaLIKHAsan partnership for its potential to promote and share important information on research and innovations.
“We generate knowledge products, technologies, policies, and other information that are useful to our target clients, which are farmers and fisherfolk. For a long time, we have been weak with promotions,” said Noel Catibog, director of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division at PCAARRD.
“We really need experts in that field who can help us. Kung magkakatulungan dito sa Project KaLIKHAsan, it will benefit both parties,” he added.
PCAARRD has multiple projects and research initiatives related to biodiversity, climate change, livestock, fisheries, and crops, as well as technology transfer programs. Through the partnership, PCAARRD can explore these areas alongside PMG.
Catibog sees Project KaLIKHAsan helping promote PCAARRD’s sustainability initiatives among communities.
“We need the efforts of Project KaLIKHAsan kasi isolated communities or small communities ang kaya namin tulungan,” he explained. “Kailangan naming mapalaganap ‘yung mga nakaaalam ng efforts so mas mabilis ang dissemination and adoption of the approach.”
For Catibog, Project KaLIKHAsan can empower communities by building social capital and strengthening the flow of information.
