Film enthusiasts, they heard you!

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Facebook the extension of the theatrical run of the official entries under the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in select cinemas, following widespread calls from movie enthusiasts and the general public.

MMDA and MMFF Chairman Atty. Don Artes expressed his gratitude for the support of all moviegoers, as the original showdates were initially scheduled to end on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition,” Artes said. “Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent.”

The annual festival’s 50th edition is now up to run for another week. This extension also means MMFF complimentary passes will remain valid until Jan. 14.

The proceeds from MMFF will be distributed to various beneficiaries including the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund), the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The official entries from the MMFF include And The Breadwinner Is..., Espantaho, Hold Me Close, Isang Himala, My Future You, Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital, The Kingdom, Topakk, Uninvited, and Green Bones.

During the 2024 MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, Green Bones took home the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography awards. Its stars, Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, clinched the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards, respectively.

The MMFF, which is organized by the MMDA, primarily aims to promote and enhance the preservation of the Philippine cinema.
