A four-year-old boy reportedly fell to death from the 27th floor of a condominium unit in Barangay Lahug in Cebu.

Initial reports said that the mother went to the kitchen to make coffee. She thought that the boy and his sibling were still asleep.

Later on, the boy fell on the canopy of the condominium's third floor. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival, reported SunStar Cebu.

When the mother returned, she thought the boy was missing and looked for him, including in the lobby downstairs.

She then heard people talking about a boy who had fallen from an upper floor and later found that it was her son.

According to the police, the room’s door may have remained slightly open, allowing the boy to go out. Police said the child possibly went to the balcony and climbed a (small) chair before falling to his death.

The unit has been sealed while the investigation is ongoing.

The mother and the police are also waiting for a copy of the security footage from the management.

The management, in a statement sent to media including ABS-CBN News, said it’s "committed to conducting a thorough review of the incident and implementing any necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future."

It said it’s also implementing “enhanced security measures and increased personnel presence in the area.”
