Pamilya Pass: Buy 1, get 3 free tickets at MRT, LRT lines on Sundays

Families can save up on their train rides on Sundays as the "Pamilya Pass 1+3" promo, where commuters get three free train tickets when they purchase one, has been launched.

The promo will be available on Sundays for the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 lines. A fare table for the promo will be posted, as per Radio Television Malacañang.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that this initiative was to promote family time among Filipinos. The president, along with First Lady Liza Marcos and their children Ilocos 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos, Joseph Simon Marcos, and Vinny Marcos, rode the MRT-3 on June 1 to kick off the promo.

For this, one family member shall pay for a single journey ticket, and their companions will be issued three more to be presented at the guard at the service gate.

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, groups of friends may also enjoy the promo, which will go on until the last Sunday of 2028. There's also no need to present IDs to avail, Dizon told ABS-CBN News.

During the launch, Marcos also announced the suspension of the EDSA rehabilitation project.

The EDSA rehab was set to begin with preparatory works by the evening of June 13. The public was warned to expect traffic obstruction and slowdown throughout the project, which was eyed to be completed by 2027.

"Bigyan natin ang sarili natin ng isang buwan, pag-aralan natin itong mga bagong teknolohiya, gumawa tayo ng magandang plano. Baka naman imbis na dalawang taon magawa natin sa anim na buwan, sa isang taon. We will find a better way na hindi masyado mahirap para sa ating commuter," Marcos said.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also canceled the odd-even scheme set for a dry run on June 16 to help ease expected traffic along the major thoroughfare.

Existing number coding schemes will continue to be implemented.

The MRT and LRT lines recently announced that they would begin accepting card and mobile payments by July.
