Victoria Bossong claims bronze in women's 800m run at the 20th Asian Games
Filipino runner Victoria Bossong took home the bronze medal in the 20th Asian Games women’s 800-meter final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
The 23-year-old athlete clocked 2:05.34 to secure third place during the race on Tuesday evening, bringing the country's medal count to 18.
China’s Wu Hongjiao claimed the gold medal with a winning time of 2:04.49, while Nelly Korir of Bahrain captured the silver in 2:05.16.
Speaking to the Philippine Olympic Committee after the race, Bossong said she was "very disappointed" that she didn't get the gold, but was happy to represent the Philippines for the first time.
"I was very disappointed. I haven't run that slow of a time in many years. But again, like I know I'm a lot more fit than that, and I think just you know coming here, part of this is just gaining experience. This is my first time representing the Philippines at all, and especially on such a big stage. There's a lot of pressure that comes with that, and you know I've been trying to not let that pressure affect me," she said.
"I don't think anything's a failure unless you don't learn something from it, and I definitely learned a lot from that race. So going forward, I hope that I can use those lessons and bring home a little silver, gold for the future," she continued.
Bossong first started competing for Harvard University, where she earned multiple All-American honors and finished as the national runner-up in the 800 meters at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships.
She established herself as one of Harvard's signature middle-distance runners after breaking the two-minute barrier for the first time with a finish of 1:59.48. She was also crowned the 2025 Ivy League indoor champion in the 400 meters with a time of 52.02 seconds.
The Fil-Am standout owns a personal best of 1:58.52—set in June 2026 during the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas.
Bossong formally switched her sporting nationality to the Philippines in July 2026, shortly after breaking the Philippine national record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.55 at the Ed Murphy Classic.
