As Karen Davila was introducing what was supposed to be a sober field update by reporter Karen De Guzman, the veteran broadcaster accidentally turned the moment into a source of laughter.
"Nagpapatrol, Karen Davila," the anchor announced in the Feb. 11 telecast of TV Patrol before catching herself a second later.
"Ay, Karen de Guzman," she hurriedly said, but was cut off by the field report on a crime story.
The blooper kept the studio laughing long after it happened. During their closing segment, Davila's co-anchors Zen Hernandez and Alvin Elchico roasted their colleague.
"Ano'ng pangalan mo?" Elchico asked Davila.
"Ako po si... Karen De Guzman," Davila replied amid laughter from her co-anchors.
"Ganu'n talaga 'pag live," Elchico said.
"Mag-apologize ka kay Karen," he teased Davila. To the camera, presumably to reporter De Guzman, he said, "Hindi sinasadya, Karen."
"Puwede ko rin masabi, Ako po si Katrina Domingo," added Davila, referring to another TV Patrol reporter.
"Puwede, 'di ba? May mga times talaga na ganu'n tayo. Aminin natin 'yan. 'Di ba, Alvin?" said Hernandez.
"Wala pang nangyari sa 'king ganyan. Perfect ako, eh," Elchico joked, as his co-anchors laughed. "Loko lang. Ikaw naman, 'di ka mabiro. Minsan lang nga magyabang."
"Hoy, 'wag. Baka bukas makalawa magkamali ako," he added, knocking three times on his arm. "Baka sabihin ko, Jeff ano. Ano ba'ng kilalang Jeff?"
"Canoy. Caparas." Hernandez said.
"O, marami silang Jeff, eh. 'Wag naman po, Lord. Sorry sa kayabangan. Bawi, bawi, bawi," Elchico said.
Her on-air blooper garnered hilarious reactions on social media.
"Sa presinto ka magpaliwanag," reporter Jeff Canoy joked on X.
"Sorry po kung inulit ko pero havey," an X user said.
"Next time, to be safe, 'wag na siguro pagsabayin ang 2 Karens," another one joked.
Karen Davila apologizes
Soon after her on-air gaffe, Davila apologized to her namesake on X: "OMG...ay...Karen De Guzman! Apologies," she wrote with a laughing emoji and tagging TV Patrol.

De Guzman replied with good humor: "Hahaha. Hi Ma'am [Davila]!! You made my day po hihi."
The reporter further joined in on the fun by posting on X a reel of the other times Davila introduced her in a live telecast.
"Karen-to-Karen during live news reports. Buti na lang talaga hindi na po need i-mention ang surname after lead in haha. Forever a fan of Ms. [Davila]," De Guzman wrote, tagging the anchor.

In a Facebook post, she also shared a fun fact: "I was really named after Ms. Karen Davila."
This is not the first time Davila has drawn laughs from her on-air segments. In an October 11, 2022 telecast, Davila was delivering her spiel from an outdoor area within ABS CBN's ELJ Building when a leaf fell on her face. She stayed poised, however, and continued on with her outro.
In a Feb. 28, 2023 telecast, four TV Patrol Anchors—Noli de Castro, Davila, Bernadette Sembrano, and Henry Omaga Diaz—were delivering their closing segment when someone could be clearly heard passing gas. Davila stopped halfway through her spiel and started giggling. She could barely finish her lines, and neither could Sembrano and Omaga Diaz.
A year later, as de Castro was delivering the news, Davila casually walked behind de Castro, unaware that she was caught on camera. When she was halfway across the frame, Davila saw herself on the monitor and made a quick u-turn.
