LOOK: Karen Davila is a proud mom as her son with autism is now a UP college freshman
Karen Davila's firstborn, David, is off to college as a UP arts student.
The veteran journalist took to social media to share the good news on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
“PROUD OF YOU DAVID. Wow! This day!! David, now a freshman at the UP College of Fine Arts for the Associate in Arts undergraduate program!” Karen wrote, sharing photos of her with his classmates, and their photo together along with the UPCFA officials.
She went on to share that David took the talent determination test at UP Diliman last May.
“No parents allowed during testing. By June, we got the letter that David made it! My heart was bursting with joy!” she recalled, and then expressed her gratitude to everyone helping her son, including UPCFA officials and his teachers from previous art school.
“Preparing a child in the autism spectrum for college takes a lot of support & planning. Thank so much to my alma mater - UP DILIMAN, the officials of UPCFA for choosing INCLUSIVITY,” she continued.
“For now, David is accompanied by his teachers from Vanguard - helping him adjust to college life & his classes. I love [The Vanguard Academy] teachers - for being with David on his journey! Love you guys,” she said.
“It is true, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ Even more so, a child with special needs. Thank you teachers, David is in college because of all of you,” she quipped. “I hope this serves as an inspiration to my co-parents out there!”
Karen concluded her post by attributing David's latest feat to God.
“David, you continue to defy limitations & expectations. You are God’s miracle. Thank you, Lord Jesus for David. Thank you for your faithfulness & love,” she wrote.
The 21-year-old David, who is on the autism spectrum, first started making his own artwork in 2021. In May 2022, he launched his first art exhibit after finishing his first year as a special Visual Arts student at The Vanguard Academy.
