8 must-try bulalo restaurants outside Tagaytay

Talk about Pinoy comfort food and for many foodies, bulalo would always be top of mind. 

Tagaytay has been known for its delicious versions of this Filipino dish, with some restaurants offering it with unlimited refills of the savory broth-based soup. But while we know the dish is always worth a road trip, it's not every day that we have time to go on an hours-long drive to the city. 

It's a good thing there are also hit bulalo spots in the metro that could satisfy our palates just the same. Are you looking for one in Manila? Here's a guide on where to go first when you want the dish just about now.

Bulaluhan sa Laon-Laan

Bulaluhan sa Laon-Laan is a famous bulalo spot in Sampaloc, Manila for its excellent bulalo that's not heavy on the wallet. Their version, which is priced below P200, is filled with plenty of tender meats and just the right amount of vegetables, topped with green and red onions as well as some pepper to seal the deal.

The place is situated near Tomas Morato, too, which makes it a good spot for when you want to fill your stomach before ending the day with some hard drinks. 

Bullchef

Bulalo Chef, also known by the name Bullchef, is a diner located at 4 East Capitol Drive in Kapitolyo, Pasig City. It is famous for its unique versions of the dish with generous portions of bone marrow and a reasonable price.

Among its signature dishes that are loved by foodies are the Asimbull bulalo sinigang (P488), or bone marrow in tamarind soup, and BULLCHEF Special (P430), a sizzling bulalo version in buttery gravy with corn, beans, and carrots. 

If you're not much of a heavy eater, you can also opt for the BULLilit that comes with 50-gram bone marrow. And if you prefer something fried, give Bullchef's bulalo sisig (P295) a try.

Bulalo Fiesta

Bulalo Fiesta, located in Mindanao Ave. Extension in Novaliches, Quezon City, is an around-the-clock restaurant that offers a range of Filipino cuisine, with bulalo as its main star.

You should visit this restaurant if you want to enjoy various regional versions of this meal. Bulalo with Batwan and Libas, Bulalo Pochero, Bulalo Sinigang, and Bulalo with Jackfruit and Dry Beans—that are all priced at P400—are just a few of the diverse forms of bulalo that they have on hand. 

Bulaluhan sa Ramirez

Bulaluhan sa Ramirez, which is located at 55 N. Ramirez St. Galas, QC, has garnered many positive reviews from its customers, who referred to its bulalo as "babalik-balikan." This restaurant quickly became a haven for students of its neighboring universities and bar hoppers trying to sober up after a night out.

Good to fill the hungry stomach of one, its bulalo comes in two variants: Sinigang (P140) and Nilaga (P210). It reasonably priced, has excellent flavor, plus served quickly.

Bulaluhan sa España

Bulaluhan sa España is labeled as one of the go-to spots for bulalo in Manila, especially for those who are budget-conscious. This family-style restaurant offers Special Bulalo Nilaga (P258) and Regular Bulalo Sinigang (P158) that its loyal customers are raving about. The likes of Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, Parokya ni Edgar, and members of the 6 Cyclemiind band are just a few of the famous people who have already checked out this under-the-radar restaurant.

Lokasyon MNL

Lokasyon MNL in Sampaloc, Manila's Maceda Street, is the finest option if you're looking for bulalohan with a cool dining experience and a cozy ambiance. It offers dishes that can be shared by a big group at a reasonable price. Among this is its bulalo steak priced at P680. This restaurant's atmosphere is reminiscent of a bygone period with a modern twist, making it ideal for a warm dinner with friends and family. 

Sage

When in Baguio, you must definitely try Sage. Located at 95 Military Cutoff Road, this restaurant offers a flavorful soup-less Bulalo you can enjoy in a charming atmosphere. 

Sage serves up fusion classics with a modern touch. One excellent example is the Bulalo Steak, which replaces the dishes' traditional soup with a creamy sauce and gravy on the side. Priced at P280, it's definitely a dish to warm up your stay at the City of Pines.

 Smoke Resto

Smoke Resto is one of the tourist hotspots in White Beach, Malay, Aklan Province. This 24-hour restaurant cookies dishes, like its popular Bulalo Soup, right in front of its customers, making the experience extra special. Not only that, you can order this delicious, crowd favorite dish for only P300. Other Pinoy favorites, such as sisig, grilled squid, and beef salpicao, are definitely a must-try according to its loyal customers.
