Del Union in BGC to close this March

Published Mar 03, 2025 2:41 pm

Del Union, a coffee and sandwich shop that was inspired by La Union’s beloved cafe El Union, will soon be bidding farewell.

In an announcement on its social media pages, Del Union expressed its gratitude to its customers as it revealed that it only has until March 27 before it closes down, saying that their business "hasn't worked out."

"This might come as a shock to those who've come through or have supported us from afar. Del Union was always meant to be a vessel for our many crazy and radical ideas," the restaurant said.

"Stepping out of our comfort zone to open a shop 200 kilometers away from Urbiztondo during a time of extreme industry volatility is one of the bigger risks we've made as a company. For one reason or another, it hasn't worked out," it added.

While it acknowledged that its time in the space has been cut short, Del Union highlighted that they are closing down "knowing that we did the most we could."

"For each day we were given to be of service to you all, we're grateful," it said.

"We're not too sure what the future holds for our Manila shop but we do intend on making the most of our last month. We'd love to serve you all once more! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for having us," it ended.

Many of Del Union's customers took to the comments section to lament the news of its closing.

"Del Union was our secret haven, hidden in plain sight, anti-stress getaway. I hope you'll open another nearby branch soon," one user wrote.

Another commented, "I am sad to hear this, but am so glad I was able to visit last December. You have a beautiful and unique space, and I loved the celebration of Filipino coffees!"

Del Union opened its branch on the third floor of Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street. The cafe draws inspiration from its sister store El Union, which is located in La Union's surftown, San Juan, and flocked by surfers and tourists alike.

Del Union's store hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Fridays to Saturdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays.
