NowNow
Are you in for a new dining experience? NowNow is a contemporary canteen that doubles as a fermentation lab. This restaurant, which features an innovative variety of local and international staples, is helmed by Polish chef Mateusz Łuczaj, Filipina pastry chef Lisane Łuczaj, and couple Bryan and Maxine Kong who are also behind the famous Kurimu ice cream.
Try their fried chicken with shio koji or the Breakfast Shakshouka and dandan noodles.
The restaurant is open for walk-ins, but you may also book your table in advance here.
NowNow is located at 497-C Rosa Building, Calbayog corner Esteban St., Mandaluyong City. Its open hours are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays to Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays to Sundays.
Cafe Siriusdan
If you’re looking for a cafe with a homey feel, check out Cafe Siriusdan. Nestled in an old 80s duplex apartment, this charming, rustic cafe treats customers to the artsy and nostalgic vibe of old Manila—from quilt wall design, patterned pots and mugs, and old furniture to OPM hits playing from a turntable, among others. There are also books you can borrow for your quiet time.
They offer iced and hot coffee for P110 to 210. For those who don’t like coffee, there are also non-espresso-based drinks like Matcha Latte and Strawberry Latte, and iced soda frizz, available in calamansi, guava, orange, and strawberry. Sandwiches, pasta, and bread are also available.
Cafe Siriusdan is at 492 Halcon Extension, Mandaluyong City. Its operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays to Sundays. Closed on Mondays.
25 Coffee Club
For barkada hangouts, head over to 25 Coffee Club. This chic cafe is perfect for light snacks or spontaneous brunch dates on a budget, offering coffee, non-coffee-based, sparkling ade, fruit tea, hot tea, and pour-over coffee Atok and Mountain Summit, with prices ranging from P75 to P205.
Pair your favorite drinks with a crispy chicken sandwich or BBQ bacon sandwich, or with pasta like truffle cream or shrimp and sausage. For a rice meal, try their famous kimchi fried rice for P250.
The place is also work-friendly as they have sockets available.
