Two Filipino restaurants among TasteAtlas’ top 100 restaurants in the world
Two Filipino food places made it to TasteAtlas’ list of the world’s top 100 restaurants.
Classic restaurant The Aristocrat had landed on the 73rd spot while Café Adriatico was ranked 90th. The food and cuisine website regarded lumpiang shanghai and adobo as the most notable dishes that the two eateries offer, respectively.
The food place that clinched the top spot is the world-famous Figlmüller restaurant in Vienna, known for its Schnitzel Wiener Art.
Included in the top five are Pizzeria da Michele in Naples, Hofbräuhaus München in Munich, Gino e Toto Sorbillo in Naples, and Paragon Restaurant in Mexico City.
The Aristocrat is no stranger to recognitions from TasteAtlas. It was previously praised as one of the 150 most legendary restaurants in the world for its "unique gastronomic journey" and its "popular Lumpiang Shanghai."
The lifestyle website noted that each place on the list offers "a unique gastronomic journey that is absolutely worth embarking upon at least once in your lifetime."
Engracia Cruz-Reyes founded The Aristocrat in 1936, making it one of the oldest homegrown restaurants in the Philippines. The first Aristocrat operated as a rolling store using a Studebaker van, and its menu centered on traditional Filipino dishes.
In addition to its lumpiang shanghai, The Aristocrat is also famous for its signature barbecue chicken served with peanut sauce and java rice, kare-kare, crispy pata, and more.
On the other hand, Café Adriatico was the very first restaurant created by LJC Group founder, Larry J. Cruz. It became known for its menu of international and Filipino dishes, and its old-world charm.
It has since become a popular landmark at Remedios Circle in Malate, Manila and has expanded to have branches in Gateway Mall and SM Mall of Asia.
