Make a stop at Kowloon Station

Kowloon Station is now open. Not the one in Hong Kong, but the new dim sum and noodle restaurant people are talking about right here on EDSA!

Kowloon Station’s story did not start on EDSA. It started nearby on Arnaiz Avenue in 2003 where Hai Shin Lou, one of the best Cantonese restaurants in Manila, opened. Families gathered here for fine Chinese cuisine, of course including the owners where their children, who would be the next generation, learned about great Chinese food.

The Tengco siblings—Amanda, Sandro and Xavi are the next generation. They started to open restaurants of their own, starting with Lucky Dumpling, which opened in Hann Resorts in Clark Pampanga. But that was still out of Manila and now they’ve come home—a short walk from where it started, on the very same street (Arnaiz Avenue).

Pork shao long pao

Kowloon Station is their homage to Hai Shin Lou, with in-house chefs from Hong Kong manning the roasts and dim sum. It is the same Cantonese roasting and dim sum craft made quicker, more affordable, and available all day, dine-in or to go!!

Char siu pao

Everything is made in the store. The kitchen with its four stations (dim sum, dumpling, wok and roasting) is constantly busy making everything including its own house-made wonton wrappers and noodles as well! The in-house chefs are from Hong Kong and prepare dim sum, roasts, congee, soup, rice toppings, and fried rice.

Deep fried bean curd roll

Even the place is aesthetically eye-pleasing as the place is designed like a Hong Kong MTR station in the heart of Metro Manila right on EDSA corner Arnaiz Avenue.

Lucky dumplings

The menu is extensive, so let’s narrow it down to my favorites! The best thing on the menu for me is the Lucky Dumpling—these are fried shrimp wontons in the thinnest wonton wrapper you can imagine. A crisp and thin wrapper covers succulent, juicy, well-seasoned shrimp! The wonton noodle soup is a must-order too. The noodles are some of the thinnest I’ve had in Manila and I loved the flavor of the soup and wonton too! The pork shao long bao and hakaw (shrimp dumplings) are also two dishes that customers love to order. I really like shrimp so another favorite is the deep-fried bean curd roll… of course with shrimp rolled into the crispy bean curd! Bread lovers ought to try the onion pancake with Chinese ham and or for siopao lovers, try the char siu pao or the chicken pao.

I had so much that I failed to try their congee, which looked really good so I have another reason to go back to this place! Aside from dine in and take away, they also do catering services.

There is no need to go to Hong Kong as we have our own Kowloon Station in Manila now!
