Looking for somewhere new to bike and run? After two years, New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac has reopened its doors to the public, touting facilities fit for athletes looking to train and for families who want to spend some time in nature.

Previously, the planned community was used for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games but later restricted access due to the pandemic.

On May 28, New Clark City finally welcomed back the public, allowing visitors to run, bike, and tour the city every weekend for free. Here are some activities to look forward to in the city.

Cycling safely

New Clark City features spacious, open roads for cycling activities as well as dedicated bike lanes marked in red along its roads. The bike lanes are separate from roads for vehicles and pathways for pedestrians.

"Tarlac is growing to be a biking destination because of our nice scenic roads," said incoming Tarlac 2nd District Congressman Christian Yap. He added that the local government is planning to add more bike signs and establish more bike repair stands in its towns.

Jog in the morning

Apart from bike lanes, New Clark City also has a track field for joggers who want to run without worrying about vehicles. The rubberized track, which is free to use by the public, sits just outside the Athletics Stadium.

Tour iconic sports facilities

Visitors of the city can check out the facilities used during the 2019 SEA Games like the Athletics Stadium and the Aquatics Center.

The Athletics Stadium can seat over 20,000 people and hosts a 400m nine-lane oval with a rubberized track. Aside from events like track and field, the stadium can also be used as a football field and concert venue.

Meanwhile, the Aquatics Center features an Olympic pool, a diving pool, and a bleacher area for fans.

Bask in nature

New Clark City isn't just for sports buffs, it can also be for families, travelers, and art and nature lovers. The development is home to the National River Park Corridor, a pet-friendly park filled with lush greenery and sculptures by renowned artists Kenneth Cobonpue, Bernardo Pacquing, and Bea Valdes.

One of the must-see installations at the 4.5-hectare River Park is the Domes Village. Its suspended bridges serve as a playground for those who want to have fun in the sun.

Those who want to chill or have a picnic can unwind inside artistically crafted hammocks nearby the domes.

For visitors coming from Metro Manila, New Clark City is accessible via North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, through the Dolores or Concepcion exit. It's also accessible through air travel through the nearby Clark International Airport.
