#ECQSeason2: The internet remembers Dalgona coffee, ube pandesal, 2020 lockdown trends
Remember when we all thought the first 2020 lockdown would only take two weeks? Well, we’re now apparently moving onto “ECQ Season 2”— and the PH “viewers” aren’t happy.
Amid the surging all-time high COVID-19 cases in the country, NCR Plus—namely, Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Rizal—is once again under a strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) from March 29 to April 5.
Like with all things, the internet is bitterly recalling the much simpler days of discovering TikTok, sushi bakes, ube cheese pandesals, and whipping up Dalgona coffee. You know, back when we thought this time next year we'd be "back to normal."
The nostalgia was so strong that the word "Dalgona" even trended on Philippine twitter on March 27, the night that the one-week lockdown was announced.
Balita mag ECQ daw. For some reason, Dalgona coffee and sushi bake seem to sound like a good idea again ?

While some embraced the absurdity of the déjà vu, some Twitter users couldn’t help but recall how is time flying by once again, with user@_miguelzc whipping out this meme of Jose Mari Chan ever-so-subtly bringing in the -Ber months.

Twitter user @SirRenzSaavadera shared the same sentiment, as he was jokingly traumatized by just how fast time can pass during the quarantine.
may trauma na ko sa one week na ECQ kuno na yan, jusko huli kong narinig yan paglabas ko ng bahay kumakanta na si Jose Mari Chan eh

Meanwhile, most of the bitter nostalgia stems from the frustration of going through the same things again, as the country is still far from reaching the situation of other countries that are successfully vaccinating their citizens.
lemme get my whisk and start doing that dalgona s*** again. pic.twitter.com/7Y3kgHS1td

With the country is recording consecutive all-time high positive COVID-19 cases, the concerns and nostalgia aren't only relatable, it just might happen for real, especially with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana mentioning that the extension of the 1-week lockdown could be an option in order to control the surge.
"All options are open naman sa table ng IATF," he shared with CNN Philippines’ The Source on March 29.
Are you ready for another season?
