Time to book that flight! Here's when you can catch cherry blossoms in bloom in Japan this 2024

Looking for the best time to visit Japan this 2024? Why not book a flight for when the beautiful cherry blossoms are in full bloom?

The Japanese Meteorological Corporation (JMC) has announced the forecast for when the Sakuras are at their brightest all over the country.

This year, the first full bloom is expected on March 26 in Kochi and areas like Tokyo, Nagoya, and Fukuoka will also be decorated in pink flowers in March.

Those looking to book a flight for April can still catch cherry blossom season as they'll be in full bloom in Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. On the other hand, the forecast for full bloom in Sapporo is in May.

Here's the full list of forecasts for flowering and full bloom for each area:

  • Kochi - flowering: March 18, full bloom: March 26
  • Hiroshima - flowering: March 21, full bloom: March 30
  • Nagoya - flowering: March 21, full bloom: March 31
  • Kagoshima - flowering: March 22, full bloom: April 3
  • Tokyo - flowering: March 23, full bloom: March 30
  • Wakayama - flowering: March 23, full bloom: March 31
  • Kyoto - flowering: March 23, full bloom: April 1
  • Osaka- flowering: March 25, full bloom: April 1
  • Kanazawa - flowering: April 1, full bloom: April 7
  • Nagano - flowering: April 6, full bloom: April 12
  • Sendai - flowering: April 8, full bloom: April 25
  • Aomori - flowering: April 21, full bloom: April 25
  • Sapporo - flowering: May 2, full bloom: May 6

Cherry blossoms will usually be around for 10 to 14 days but full bloom only lasts for a few days.

According to travel guide Live Japan, some of the perfect places to catch the pink petals are Moerenuma Park in Sapporo, Ueno Park, Meguro River, and Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, and Miharu Takizakura in Fukushima.

Filipinos who wish to visit Japan must apply for a visa with requirements including Philippine Passport, accomplished visa application form, itinerary in Japan, birth certificate, marriage contract (if applicable), bank certificate, and photocopy of Income Tax Return. Visas usually take five to seven business days to process.
