Fast food, pizza, and cake among Pinoy foodies’ top cravings in 2020—GrabFood report
The food delivery business continues to provide a lifeline to more and more Filipinos in the middle of the pandemic.
According to a GrabFood report, the number of monthly active users in the Philippines has significantly doubled in 2020 compared to 2019. Among their top consumers were individuals aged between 25 to 44 years old (65%) and married people with kids (52%)—with an average household size of 4-5 people.
Their top reasons for ordering food for delivery were wanting to enjoy the food they can’t cook, having no time to cook, as well as avoiding traffic jams and car parking issues. The majority of them counted on GrabFood for lunch, dinner, and teatime last year.
Curious as to what Pinoy foodies craved the most in 2020? Well, it’s no surprise that fast food and sweets topped the list.
Pizza was searched for over 6,000,000 times on the food delivery app in 2020. Cake orders in the same year have also increased by 2.6 times compared to 2019.
It's also interesting to note that while fast food and sweets were the most searched items on the platform at the time, a portion of consumers have also become more conscious of their health.
"This includes the way they think about food: 3 in 4 Filipinos want to eat healthier. And of that number, 60% are even willing to pay more for healthier food," as stated in the study, which shared that GrabFood orders from healthy food brands increased by four times in 2020 compared to 2019. Such customers ordered salads, sandwiches, smoothies, soup, and steamed food.
