'Squid Game' video game to be released in 2024

Are you a gaming enthusiast who bingewatched Squid Game when it was released two years ago?

You'd be happy to know that a video game version of the hit Netflix series is set to be available next year. According to a report by Variety, it will have the same setting as the show and will let you "compete with other players in games from the hit series."

Aside from Squid Game, the streamer is also expected to release other games in 2024 such as Sonic Mania Plus, Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, FashionVerse, and Game Dev Tycoon. Mike Verdu, the vice president of the streaming platform, revealed that there will be 86 games on Netflix by the end of next year.

The Korean drama follows the story of a divorced father who is left with no choice but to compete against 455 other players in a set of childhood games that were turned into do-or-die challenges—including The Recruiting Game, Red Light, Green Light, Sugar Honeycombs, Tug of War, Marbles, Hopscotch, and Squid Game—in hopes of paying off his debts. 

It became a hit when it premiered in September 2021 for its action-packed scenes and interesting storyline. It ranked first in the top shows and movies on the streamer in different countries like the United States and the Philippines.

Squid Game was followed by reality show Squid Game: The Challenge, where 456 contestants took part in similar games to take home a cash prize of $4.56 million (P259 million). It premiered on Netflix in November this year.
