Netflix puts man inside billboard to promote new thriller 'The Last House'
Netflix has taken movie marketing to new heights—literally.
To promote its new sci-fi thriller The Last House, Netflix placed a man inside a fully furnished billboard towering about 30 feet above Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, where he is expected to stay from Thursday through Saturday.
The installation recreates a living room, complete with bookshelves, a lounge chair, playing cards, plants, and a globe. Dressed in a robe, the performer spends his time reading, looking out the window with binoculars, writing messages to passersby on a whiteboard, and going about his day as if he were inside a real home.
The billboard asks one question: "How long can you survive?"
The unusual stunt mirrors the premise of The Last House, which follows a family mysteriously trapped inside their home with no way out as their supplies begin to run low. The film stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura and is directed by Louis Leterrier.
"The Last House challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity," Leterrier told Netflix's Tudum. "This is an ordinary family's worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security—and the desperate fight to reclaim it."
Speaking to Tudum, Lee said she was immediately drawn to the film's premise.
"I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it," she said. "And I was excited about the possibility of asking these questions in a new and entertaining way."
While some onlookers wondered how the performer would manage inside the billboard, Netflix confirmed the space is air-conditioned, though the company has not revealed whether it includes a bathroom.
The Last House is now streaming on Netflix.
