‘Scott Pilgrim’ anime reportedly in the works at Netflix

Netflix is reportedly developing an anime adaptation of the hit Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.

The comics, written by Bryan Lee O’Mally, were previously adapted into the cult classic 2010 live-action film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which starred Michael Cera in the title role as a slacker and part-time musician who falls in love with delivery girl Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), but must first defeat her seven evil exes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and UCP, the division of Universal Studio Group behind The Umbrella Academy and Chucky, are developing the brand-new anime adaptation. THR adds that the project does not yet have a series order, and there aren’t any details about when it could hit the streaming service.

O’Malley is writing and executive producing according to THR, along with Edgar Wright, who directed the 2010 film.

If the series gets the green light, animation would be done by the animation studio Science Saru, which produced two shorts for the Star Wars: Visions anime anthology released in September.

The potential anime series isn’t the only recent Scott Pilgrim revival in recent years.

In honor of the film's 10th anniversary, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World returned to theaters in North America with a new version specifically “reimagined” for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in 2021.

Last year, Ubisoft also brought back the video game adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, a 2D arcade-style beat 'em-up which was originally released digitally for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in August 2010 following the film's release.

In 2021, the game was released again on new platforms including the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
