How to snag concert tickets with Spotify's 'Reserved'
Your Spotify account may soon become your ticket to front-row seats.
As revealed on its Investor Day on Thursday, May 21, the digital audio streaming service announced that its new feature, Reserved, will allow dedicated fans to get early access to their favorite artists’ concert tickets directly through the app at no extra cost.
"With Reserved, Spotify will be the only audio streaming service where your fandom is rewarded with two tour tickets reserved for fans like you, because real fandom deserves a real seat at the show," the streaming platform said in a Newsroom press release.
Spotify said the feature will give an artist's "most dedicated fans" a reserved window before the public sale of tickets for a particular concert.
"You show up for the artist, Spotify shows up for you. No added fees from Spotify, and more of an artist’s truest fans will end up in the crowd where it matters most," it added.
How Spotify identifies 'real' fans
The offer is currently available for Spotify Premium subscribers in the U.S. ages 18 and above, although it will soon roll out in other regions.
Spotify said factors like streams, shares, and other Spotify activity will determine the recipient of two tour tickets. Activity of Premium users will also be monitored to ensure they are not bots.
"Inviting validated fans, we will help ensure more tickets will go straight to fans instead of scalpers," Spotify described the process' rationale.
What to expect
Offers depend on the tour's locations, so you may not get one if there isn't a show near you. If you do receive an offer via email and in-app notification, you can buy up to two tickets for any date or location on the tour.
To ensure you don't miss out, Spotify advises turning on notifications for live concerts, enabling location settings (including your preferred location in the Live Events Feed), and keeping the app updated.
Once the dedicated timeframe begins, complete your checkout on the ticketing partner’s website.
Ticket types, seating, and availability will vary by artist, tour, and location.
Reserved by Spotify arrives around the summer season in June and is partnered with Live Nation for the tickets.
