'Bridgerton' Season 2 to premiere in March 2022
The massively popular period drama series is set to return with Season 2 on March 25, 2022, Netflix and Shondaland announced.
It was indeed a merry Christmas for fans of the series following the announcement of its much-anticipated second season. In 2020, it was also on Christmas Day when Bridgerton debuted on Netflix.
The streaming giant posted on Dec. 25 a clip of the cast members delivering the good news, which they themselves did not expect coming.
In the video, the actors were handed out a piece of paper as they excitedly read its contents.
“Is that Whistledown?” Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, asks. “What’s she got to say today, the cheeky little mistress.”
“Happy anniversary to our buzzy ton. it is customary for a first anniversary, to gift paper, dear readers. I do hope you find this one informative. Bridgerton returns March 25,” read the co-stars as they were surprised stating they “actually didn’t know that!”

After it received 12 Emmy nods in July, showrunner Chris Van Dusen teased a “magnetic” second season, promising crackling chemistry between the lead actors.
As Season 1 of the series loosely focuses on the first book of Julia Quinn’s series The Duke and I, according to Harper’s Bazaar, the second season will focus on the sequel, The Viscount Who Loved Me, which story centers on the life of Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest of the eight Bridgerton children.
According to Variety, the second season tells the story of Anthony and his quest for love as he sets out to find a suitable wife. “When Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) arrive from India, Anthony starts to court the latter sister—and Kate soon discovers that his intentions for marriage are not pure.”
The series also stars Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Shelley Conn, Nicola Coughlan, Phoebe Dynevor, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Claudia Jessie, Calam Lynch, Luke Newton, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Will Tilston, Polly Walker, Rupert Young, and Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.
Shonda Rhimes, who is an executive producer of the series under her Shondaland banner, teased what would come in Season 2 after it was revealed that Simon Basset (Rege-Jean Page), the Duke of Hastings, would not be returning for the upcoming season.
Rhimes offered a brief forecast about the central couple in an interview with Variety, saying: "I think there's a powerful, interesting, romantic couple at the heart of it. They're an incredibly interesting and exciting pair. I like to watch them."
She added, "Our goal, if we do our job correctly, is you are going to be as invested and excited by that couple as you were by the couple of Season 1."
Bridgerton is executive produced by Rhimes, Betsy Beers, and Chris Van Dusen. Van Dusen also serves as the creator. (With a report from ANI)
