WATCH: Kara Zor-El soars in debut 'Supergirl' teaser trailer
The Kryptonians are at it again.
Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, finally gets her own eponymous movie in DC and Warner Bros' next big film.
The first part of the teaser trailer shows Milly Alcock as Supergirl being as human as anyone can be—she wakes up with a hangover. Her dog Krypto makes an appearance with a hilarious dig at Superman, whom fans would remember babysitting the dog in his own film Superman earlier this year.
With Blondie's Call Me setting the scene, we see Supergirl celebrating her 23rd birthday alone at a bar.
"I, Kara Zor-El, hereby declare that 23 will be the best year yet," she says while blowing out a flaming shot.
Later on, she finds herself on a planet not unlike producer James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy world, in a lot of trouble.
The film is directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Nogueira, and is based on the comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely.
Kara seems to be traveling across the galaxy with an alien Knolle to avenge Knolle's father's death.
Supergirl will hit international theaters in June 2026.
Fans last saw Alcock's Supergirl when she made a cameo toward the end of Gunn's Superman. She showed up at Kal-El's Fortress of Solitude to pick up her dog Krypto, whom she left with her cousin to babysit throughout the entire movie.
It looks like Gillespie and the rest of the creative team were careful to set Kara apart from her more reserved and disciplined superhero cousin. Her personal demons are front and center. But when she rises up in her Supergirl outfit toward the end, fans may feel the same giddy feeling they had when Kal-El did the same, ready to fight.
