Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington returns to 'Game of Thrones' franchise for 'Legends' mobile game

Kit Harrington, who famously portrayed Jon Snow in the hit fantasy television series Game of Thrones, is staging a comeback into the franchise in the form of a mobile video game.

In a promotional video for Game of Thrones: Legends, Harrington with his back turned, enters a bar and says the show's iconic line, "Winter is coming." The female staff then tells him, "Welcome, Mr. Harrington," as he looks at her pendant with red, blue, and yellow gemstones.

“I’m ready to forge my own destiny. I’ve composed my strategy, refined my tactics," he says, as he looks at the patrons of the bar with motifs from the hit television series.

"I’ll solve every puzzle, overcome every challenge, to defeat the deadliest threat we’ve ever faced: the Long Night," he says.

As Harrington takes his seat at the bar, he says he'll summon his banners and "pull together the greatest heroes of Westeros to fight for my house," as portraits of GoT characters are shown.

"I must choose my Champions wisely," he says.

Harrington then navigates the game on his phone, saying, "Empower them with legendary weapons and armor. Forge strong alliances. And lead my house to victory."

Little did he know that a woman had sat beside him, also checking out the game on her phone.

"Whatever it takes. Through fire and blood," he says in all seriousness before the game's screen shows the woman defeated her.

"You know nothing, Jo—," the woman tells him in an apparent reference to the show's yet another iconic line while Harrington cuts her off.

"Uh, don't. Don't do it," he tells the woman, who pleads to complete her sentence as the bartender looks at them.

"Well, don't say it," Harrington says, though the woman rushes to complete the line, "You know nothing, Jon Snow."

Harrington seemingly looks annoyed before saying, "I do know some things," and uses the "Dracarys" command in the game to unleash a draconic attack and win.

"Who will you summon to fight for your house?" Harrington asks the woman, before the screen cuts to black and shows the game's poster.

According to the game's official description, Legends lets players “build and lead their own Westeros house, honing their tactics and skill as they strategically assemble a team of champions, equip weapons, and gear, and face formidable foes from the Game of Thrones universe.”

Players may take on quests in Story Mode or join Raids, battling other players live.

Playable characters, from both GoT and its spinoff prequel House of the Dragon, include Rhaenyra Targaryen, The Hound, Drogon, Arya Stark, Ghost, and even Ser Criston Cole.

In a statement shared by The Hollywood Reporter, Harrington said the creativity and care taken to create the game is "obvious and it feels completely natural" to make him "jump back into Westeros for this game.”

“This is a true love letter to the fans, of whom the franchise would be nothing without," he said, "and I’m honored to pay tribute to them in this new campaign.”

Game of Thrones, based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, premiered in 2011 and ended in 2019 after eight seasons. House of the Dragon, which premiered in 2022, kicked off its second season last June.

Legends is available for download in the App Store (Apple) and Google Play (Android).
