Upcoming zombie movie '28 Years Later' was shot with an iPhone 15 Pro Max—report
At the annual launch of iPhones, Apple boasts camera upgrades for its Pro Max devices, using them to shoot music videos. Filmmaker Danny Boyle takes this up a notch as he has reportedly used the smartphones to film his upcoming zombie title 28 Years Later.
Tech website WIRED has learned that the film, which has a $75 million (P4.1 billion) budget, was shot with a bunch of "adapted" iPhone 15s.
ICYDK, 28 Years Later is the long-awaited sequel to 2002's 28 Days Later and 2007's 28 Weeks Later. Like the coming title, the first movie was also shot with cameras not typically used for Hollywood feature films, a Canon XL-1 digital camera.
WIRED learned about the use of iPhones after a paparazzi photograph came out in July of star Jodie Comer standing beside what appeared to be an iPhone attached to a modular system. Several people connected to the movie then confirmed to the outlet that they were using iPhone 15 Pro Max units for shooting.
The first film, 28 Days Later, starred Cillian Murphy as a bike courier who woke up from a coma in a deserted city. Escaping from those inflicted with the "Rage" virus, he joins a group of survivors to find safety. It starred Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Burns, and Christopher Eccleston.
Meanwhile, the 2007 second installment is set six months after the epidemic, with the US Army helping secure a small area in London for survivors to find life anew, but the Rage Virus makes its way into the safe zone. This post-apocalyptic flick starred Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Idris Elba, Imogen Poots, Mackintosh Muggleton, and Catherine McCormack.
The upcoming 2025 film will see Murphy reprising his role and star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding.
