Online humor platform 9GAG has opened the world’s first “Meme Museum” celebrating some of the most humorous images and videos that have gone viral on the internet.

Located at the K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong, the unique collaboration allows visitors to “explore the history of memes” and celebrate the best of internet culture in the real world, with no entry fee required.

Showcasing over 100 memes that visitors can interact with, the Meme Museum features seven themed zones centered around Doge, Troll Face, Disaster Girl, Distracted Boyfriend, and many more. There's no denying that memes have become part of how people communicate these days.

"They’re more than jokes, but how we celebrate and satirize current events, and how we self-deprecate as a community. It’s internet culture, and we’re taking the best of it so you can experience the glory and evolution of some of the most humorous jokes of our time in person," according to the exhibit profile on K11's Art Mall's website.

Guests can walk through the “In the Meme-time” retrospective, explore Internet culture from around the world through the “Meme-go-round,” become part of the memes in the instant “Meme Me” Snapio photo booth, and even get temporary tattoos at the “Memeingful Tattoo Station.”

The first-ever online-to-offline meme exhibition also features the “Beyond the Meme” sensory 4-D interactive experience and the launch of the world’s first meme NFT artwork titled In Meme We Love. Aside from snapping IG photos, visitors can also shop for MEME merch and exclusive 9GAG goods at the museum

For internet fans who won't get a chance to travel to Hong Kong to visit the exhibit in real life, check out the VIP virtual tour of the museum below.

Netizens around the world still have a chance to be part of the exhibit. 9GAG has launched a meme creation contest, giving internet users a chance to submit original memes and be featured in the museum itself, while nabbing a $100 cash prize. Entries will be accepted until August 9, 2021.

The Meme Museum can be found at K11 Art Mall, 18 Hanoi Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The museum exhibit runs from July 16 to September 5, 2021.
