‘Tom and Jerry’ director dies at 95
‘Tom and Jerry’ director Gene Deitch has passed away at the age of 95.
In a report by the Associated Press, Petr Himmel, Deitch’s publisher, confirmed that the American award-winning animator, illustrator and film director passed away on April 16 at his apartment in Prague.
Deitch directed 13 episodes of “Tom and Jerry” as well as several episodes of “Popeye the Sailor”, according to the report.
In 1960, Deitch’s film “Munro” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Deitch was also nominated twice for the same award in 1964 for his films “Here’s Nudnik“ and “How to Avoid Friendship”.
Earlier, he had created the “Tom Terrific” series, while the “Sidney’s Family Tree,” which he co-produced was nominated for an Academy Award in 1958, the report said.
