Fil-Canadian wows ‘American Idol’ judges, leaves Katy Perry in chills with duet cover
Filipino-Canadian Tyson Venegas continues to impress the judges on American Idol with his vocal prowess!
The 17-year-old singer left judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry in awe with his duet performance of Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen alongside his fellow platinum ticket holder Kaylin Hedges.
During the Hollywood Week of the show’s 21st season, Katy was evidently left surprised by the duo’s vocal talent as she showed her goosebumps to Luke and Lionel. She also shared a photo and video of her getting chills from Tyson and Kaylin’s duet cover on Instagram on Tuesday, April 4.
After their performance, Katy looked stunned and speechless as Luke and Lionel gave the two a well-deserved standing ovation.
Tyson earned the first-ever platinum ticket in the reality tilt’s current season in February this year with his soulful performance of Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind. Aside from his vocal chops, he also impressed the judges for having been able to play the piano flawlessly while he was singing.
The Fil-Canadian teen was part of The Voice Teens Philippines in 2020. He also performed New York State of Mind while playing the piano with a blindfold on. When asked by judge Lea Salonga why he liked to play some music that way, he said: “I really like Stevie Wonder, and I love how he plays the piano, it’s like very natural.” He became part of Apl.de.ap's team but exited the competition before the knockouts were held.
