Sony unveils extended 'Ghost of Tsushima' gameplay

It seems that Ghost of Tsushima is shaping up to be one of the biggest games this year after Sucker Punch treated fans with an 18-minute clip showcasing the open-world samurai game’s key aspects including exploration, combat and character customization.

During PlayStation’s State of Play on Thursday, Sucker Punch unveiled an extended look at the stunning island of Tsushima and what players can expect in the game.

First off, Tsushima offers a new way of navigating through the island. Instead of your typical map or compass, Jin can summon a gust of wind to help you find your way toward your destination. There are also birds that would suddenly fly beside you to lead you to various quests as well as foxes (which you can also pet!) that will guide you to hidden shrines.

The footage highlighted the sprawling flower fields, bamboo forests and mountains that players can explore.

The 18-minute gameplay also showcased what Jin can do in the game. Depending on the situation or a player’s gaming style, Jin can approach enemies either as an honorable samurai or a cold-blooded Ghost that is capable of a variety of attacks including aerial assassination or stealth back stabs.

Apart from the gameplay, Sucker Punch also gave an emphasis on the game’s cinematic aspect through its photo and video modes. Players can turn on the gray filter to make it feel like a classic samurai film and play the entire game with a Japanese voice track with subtitles.

The Ghost of Tsushima will come out on July 17 on PlayStation 4.
