Christmas crossover: Jose Mari Chan says it’s his ‘dream’ for Mariah Carey to cover his songs
If there are two names that come into the social media lexicon when the clock strikes twelve on Sept. 1, it’s undoubtedly Jose Mari Chan and Mariah Carey.
Aside from their hits that have stood the test of time, the two have become a force to be reckoned with when it comes to Christmas In Our Hearts and All I Want For Christmas Is You constantly playing during Christmas parties, or even when you need a festive pick-me-up.
Though the two icons are worlds apart, one can't help but think of the possibilities if they actually collaborated—and Jose Mari Chan thinks so too.
During an interview on the Teleradyo show “Sakto” today, Sept. 1, the 76-year-old crooner shared that it would be his “dream” for the American singer to cover one of his songs.
“Mariah Carey, she’s one of my respected artists and one day, it is my dream, that she could sing one of my songs," he shared with host Amy Perez.
However, he jokes that a duet wouldn't work given Carey’s vocal range.
“I’m not dreaming of singing with her, because I may not be able to reach her key, her pitch… but if she could sing one of my songs, wow, dream come true ‘yun.”
The discussion arose when Perez also showed Chan a series of memes of himself that have gone viral with the “Ber” months starting. Some of the memes include the artist peeking from a corner to signify his comeback and a few edited photos with Mariah.
When asked how he felt about being a staple Christmas icon in the Philippines, Jose enthused, “I feel complimented that I’m associated with the most joyful season of the year! Thank God for the gift of music, thank God indeed.”
He also quipped: “They keep using the same photos that were taken seven [to] eight years ago, so at least in the eyes of social media, Jose Mari Chan doesn’t look a day older."
