'Baywatch' reboot drops in January 2027
Fox has released the trailer for the Baywatch reboot, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2027.
Featuring an all-new cast, the reboot of the original 1989 TV series is led by Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, captain of Baywatch, a fictional beach in Los Angeles County, California. Rounding out the cast are Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchel, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader.
Amell portrays the son of original Baywatch captain, Lt. Mitch Buchannon, who was played by David Hasselhoff from 1989 until 2000. As in the first series, which transitioned to Baywatch Hawaii in its last two seasons, the new Baywatch follows the professional and personal lives of the Baywatch lifeguards.
The newly dropped trailer established one source of personal tension early on, showing Hobie's daughter Charlie, played by Belkin, suddenly showing up at his house asking for a job as a lifeguard.
Elsewhere in the clip are scenes that would be familiar to those who caught the original series, heroic rescues in the water, explosions, police chases, testy relationships, and romantic tangles.
At its peak, the original Baywatch was "the most-watched show in the world," per Deadline. It aired in over 200 countries and had more than a billion weekly viewers.
