Action-adventure sci-fi film series The Maze Runner will reportedly be getting a reboot produced by 20th Century Studios.

Jack Paglen, best known for writing the sci-fi movie Transcendence, is in negotiations with Disney as a scriptwriter for the new installment.

Meanwhile, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman of Gotham Group and Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill, who produced the original trilogy, will be back as producers, along with Wes Ball, who was the original director.

The Maze Runner movie series is based on the best-selling books by James Dashner, which tells the story of a group of teens stuck in a maze with their memories wiped out and how they attempt to escape once a certain person arrives in their walled dwelling.

The 2014 film starred Dylen O' Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, and Will Poulter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will not be a redo nor a direct sequel but will instead be a continuation of the story which will add elements from the original trilogy.

Further information regarding the plot, the cast, or even the date production will begin has yet to be revealed.

The Maze Runner franchise was unexpectedly one of the hit dystopian films that saw success after the popularity of The Hunger Games.
