'Final Destination 6' in the works

A sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise is finally in the works after 12 years.

The revival was announced during Warner Bros.’s panel at CinemaCon 2023. The film will be helmed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who are most known for co-directing the 2018 science fiction thriller film Freaks. Jon Watts, the director of Marvel's Spider-Man film series, will serve as producer and writer.

While plot details are still under wraps, the original Final Destination creator and writer, Jeffrey Reddick, promised that Final Destination 6 won't follow the usual formula of the previous films.

In an interview with Dread Central, he shared that he has been informed on what's been happening on the production of the upcoming film and highlighted that the filmmakers are trying to cook up something different, but are nevertheless still trying to be faithful to the premise.

"I will say that it's not just going to be another kind of 'we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.' And there's one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit. This one is a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn't follow that kind of formula that we've kind of established. I think I can say that much," he said.

The Final Destination franchise spans across five films. Since premiering in 2000, the series typically revolves around a small group of people cheating their own death. Despite still managing to see another day, the survivors meet their ends in the form of bizarre and gruesome accidents.

The series has garnered popularity in the horror genre because of its unseen antagonist that is the manifestation of death itself, and the one causing the fatal accidents by subtly manipulating the environment.

Warner Bros. Discovery has yet to schedule a release date.
