Cult classic horror film 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' to get sequel with original cast

Looking for a good horror film that will not only make you scream your lungs out, but also wash you with a wave of nostalgia? Here's some good news: Sony Pictures is planning to make a sequel to the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Speaking with Deadline, insiders from the entertainment company revealed that the sequel is in the works, with original cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. returning to reprise their roles.

While the project is still in early development, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is being tapped to helm the film. She is known for directing Netflix's teen black comedy film Do Revenge starring Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke and serving as co-writer of Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder with Taika Waititi.

The premise of the original film follows four young friends who were involved in a car accident after hitting a pedestrian crossing the road. Not wanting to get in trouble with the police, the group decides to dump the body in the ocean and never talk about what happened as they move on with their lives.

A year after the incident, however, the estranged friends suddenly find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding killer who knows their terrible secret. They desperately try to find out who is terrorizing them before they are hunted one by one.

Alongside Hewitt and Prinze Jr., the film also starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.

This comes as classic horror films have begun to receive new sequels and reboots long after the release of their predecessors, such as Halloween Ends and the upcoming sixth installment of the Scream franchise.
