LIST: Bike events happening in Metro Manila for World Bicycle Day 2023

World Bicycle Day is just around the corner. On Saturday, June 3, cyclists will be out in full force to draw attention to the benefits of using bicycles. More than a hobby, bicycles have provided a simple, sustainable, and vital means of transport to many Filipinos during the pandemic.

No long rides or coffee rides with friends scheduled just yet? Check out some of the cycling events and festivals happening in and near the metro this coming weekend.

SM Bike Fest 2023

SM Supermalls, in partnership with SM Cares, Break The Cycle Philippines, and a coalition of bike advocates, is celebrating World Bicycle Day with a Bike Fest 2023 in select SM Malls nationwide. Community fun rides, a bike safety clinic for children, and other activities will take place on June 3 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fun rides will be held within the vicinity and surrounding areas of SM by the BAY (MOA Complex), SM City Fairview, SM City Marikina, SM City Clark, SM City Sta. Rosa, SM Seaside Cebu and SM Lanang Premier. The community fun bike ride is open to all cyclists 12 years old and above. Early bird perks include food, water, free-size shirts, and tokens.

Want to teach your kids to bike in a safe environment? A bike safety clinic for kids will also take place at SM By the BAY (MOA Complex), SM City Fairview, and SM City Marikina. The class, good for kids aged 6 to 15 years old, includes sessions on bike safety and the use of kiddie bikes for the duration of the clinic. Register for SM's Bike Fest 2023 here.

Pedal Power at Ayala Malls Fairview Terraces

Any Quezon City bikers out there? Ayala Malls Fairview Terraces is hosting a day of bike-centric activities on June 3, including a free fun ride starting at 7:00 a.m. departing from U.P. Town Center and ending at Ayala Malls Fairview Terraces.

At the event, cyclists can check the Biker’s Lane, an exhibit for bicycles, accessories, safety gear, apparel, and more. Learn the basics and benefits of biking through talks by popular cycling vlogger Ian How of Sarap Mag Bike Shop, Firefly Brigade, and other special guests. The event will also host raffles with prizes from Spyder and other sponsors up for grabs every hour, so be sure to stick around until 5:00 p.m. 

Biker’s Day at Filinvest City

Based in the South of the metro? Bring the whole family and celebrate with Filinvest City's Biker’s Day, which promises a Community Ride in the Garden City and other fun activities happening at Central Park.

In case you're still scouting around for a bike, you can test some new two-wheelers at the bike demos. Bring your bikes for free tune-ups, cure your upgraditis by shopping at the bike bazaar, and pedal towards sustainability in the community ride. Gear up from 5:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. to beat the worst of the heat.

Taguig Cycling Challenge

The City of Taguig, in partnership with the Department of Health, is hosting a Cycling Challenge open for cycling enthusiasts based in Taguig. To make entries count, challengers need to bike a minimum of 50 km and record their rides using Strava from May 29 to June 3 and tag #TaguigWBD2023.

As part of the city's bid to improve bike infrastructure in the city, the challenge also asks bikers to include recommendations and programs for active transport. Prizes up for grabs include cycling merchandise, stylish cycling jerseys, water bottles, and bike lights among others. Freedom Cycle 2023: Tour de Metro

Freedom Cycle 2023: Tour de Metro is a cycling event organized by Friedrich Naumann Foundation Philippines and Junior Chamber International Manila that aims to make cities more accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. With the previous two Freedom Cycles organized virtually due to the pandemic, this is the first time that the Freedom Cycle event will take place physically.

The Bike Event on June 3 will kick off at 7:00 a.m. from different points in Taguig, Makati, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and San Juan City, and will end at San Juan City Hall. Participants can join the event raffle to win an e-bike and other cycling-related giveaways. Register to secure a spot and stay tuned for more details about the event here.

World on Two Wheels at Arcovia City

Arcovia City is celebrating World Bicycle Day with different groups and communities. From June 1 to 4, bikers can enjoy a bike expo, seminar, and discounts prepared by their partner GoPedal.ph.

On June 3, cyclists can take part in Tour de Arcovia around the outdoor destination and make use of of the bike lanes, bike parking racks and bike repair tools. A “Bike to Basics Seminar” conducted by partner organizers Go Pedal PH and Elek3fied will also take place from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Grab the latest gear, accessories, and parts from the leading bike brands and sellers the whol day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pedal Palooza Bike Expo. Bikers can test drive different bicycle and e-bike models for a better overview of their product features. Register for the event here

Rock a Bike at Megaworlds Lifestyle Mall

Eastwood City and other Megaworld Lifestyle Malls are also taking part in the World Bicycle Day celebrations with bike-centric activities.
