Pinoy flavors, represent! Lumpia, adobo offered at 2026 Canadian Open
The 2026 Canadian Open got a taste of Filipino favorites lumpia and adobo during Alex Eala's run.
For a limited time only, chicken adobo was available for C$17 (about P740) and lumpia for C$12 (about P522).
Speaking to sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo, National Bank Open executive chef Ash said Filipino fans had been asking for Filipino dishes for some time, so he listened. The dishes, however, won't be available for the entire duration of the Canadian Open. He made only 200 servings of lumpia.
"The lumpia right now, it is flying. It's only a limited-time offer. I just have 200 servings of the lumpia. Once it's gone, it's gone," the chef said.

Served in disposable containers, each of the adobo and lumpia dishes bears the Philippine flag.
For his take on the pork lumpia, Chef Ash topped it with banana catsup, chicharon crumb, dehydrated garlic, and crushed peanuts. It comes with a small container of sinamak vinegar. The chicken adobo was served on top of white rice and garnished with spring onion.
The Pinoy fare came out just in time for Eala's Round of 16 match against Belinda Bencic on Monday, Aug. 10 (Philippine time). Nursing an injury on her right foot, Eala bowed out of the tournament with a 4–6, 0–6 defeat.
Eala now heads to the Cincinnati Open, another WTA 1000 event where the champion earns 1,000 points. The tournament begins on Aug. 15. Per ESPN, Eala is expected to be granted a first-round bye, which will automatically advance her to the second round.
