Prince Harry shares why he has no plans of bringing Meghan Markle back to UK

Prince Harry said there are "genuine concerns" over bringing his wife, American actress Meghan Markle, back to the United Kingdom.

"It's still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read," Harry said in an interview for the documentary Tabloids on Trial, which premiered on July 25.

"And whether it's a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It's one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country," he added.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, Neil Basu, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police, said there were genuine threats to Markle's life when she was still in the UK in 2022.

The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) then stripped them of their automatic right to police security in the UK.

Though Harry offered to cover the costs of security, his bid was rejected, per PEOPLE.

He asked the High Court for security, citing his two children—Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3—"to feel at home" in his native country. But last February, the High Court upheld RAVEC's decision to downgrade his security. Harry plans to appeal the decision.

Harry has returned to the UK several times, including the coronation of his father, King Charles, in May 2023. Meghan, meanwhile, last visited the UK in September 2022, during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. Their children last went to UK in June 2022, during Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

Harry and Meghan stepped out of their royal family duties in 2020. They've since relocated to Meghan's hometown California.

In December 2021, Harry and Meghan in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan talked about their experiences in the British royal family, including how they were unhappy about racist media reports and tabloid harassment. They also claimed that the family instigated some of them.

They're still formally referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and are called Harry the Duke of Sussex and Meghan the Duchess of Sussex.

They, however, are simply introducing themselves as Harry and Meghan since then.
