'Avatar' to get new prequel series set three generations before Aang
Avatar fans are going to be well-fed after franchise co-creator Bryan Konietzko proudly announced a new prequel series named Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.
On Instagram, Konietzko shared first-look images for the upcoming action-comedy series after their reveal at the New York Comic-Con panel for Avatar: Seven Havens, the latest series in the franchise, which premiered on Paramount+ on Friday.
Konietzko shared that this has been one of his most highly anticipated series, as it challenges the current image of Avatar.
“When Mike and I put together our slate for Avatar Studios, I had the idea to do a comedy series about Kuruk that flipped the script on the way he had been portrayed in the Avatar canon thus far, one that focused on a group of Water Tribe kids traveling the world together,” Konietzko wrote in his caption.
Set three generations before the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, it follows Kuruk, a rebellious teenage Avatar from the water tribe who breaks thousands of years of tradition, traveling the world to learn and master the four elements.
The official release date for the series has yet to be announced.
