Ahead of its 50th anniversary, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) said it's screening 50 classic Filipino movies in select theaters for P50.

This year's MMFF has the theme "Sine Sigla Sa Singkwenta," aiming to "take viewers on a journey back in time" and invoke nostalgia.

According to Atty. Don Artes, the MMDA Acting Chairman and MMFF Overall Concurrent Chairman, the initiative's goal is to honor the MMFF's significant impact on Philippine cinema and to commemorate the transformation of MMFF films over time.

"With the Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta screenings, we will bring some of the most memorable MMFF films back to the big screen for just 50 pesos, allowing both new audiences and long-time fans to experience the magic of those beloved films once again. These films represent some of the best of what the MMFF has offered over the past five decades," said Artes.

The 50 chosen films "encapsulate the historical, social, and artistic narratives of their respective eras," with some having "undergone a process of restoration, quality enhancements, and remastering for a better viewing experience."

For its 2023 edition, the MMFF has 10 entries instead of the usual eight, handpicked from the 26 scripts that 32 production companies had submitted for consideration.
