Kelly Clarkson to replace Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime show slot

Months after the announcement that Ellen DeGeneres’ 19-year-long talk show is set to be cancelled, it seems that its network has found a new host to fill her place.

American Idol alumna Kelly Clark is set to take the lead in NBC's daytime entertainment schedule with the second season of The Kelly Clarkson Show, slowly easing out The Ellen DeGeneres Show's 19th and final season.

“These are remarkable achievements for a talk show in its second season," shared NBCUniversal's Valari Staab.

"We look forward to Ellen DeGeneres’ 19th season paired with Kelly Clarkson for what is sure to be a blockbuster year. By 2022, The Kelly Clarkson Show will be the star of our daytime entertainment schedules and an asset to our early afternoon newscasts," she added.

In case you didn't know, Ellen  broke the news earlier this May amid allegations of being cultivating a toxic workplace environment. However, DeGeneres explained that she was retiring from the show because it was no longer a "challenge” to keep it up.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore," the 63-year old shared.

Meanwhile, Clarkson's show shares a similar wavelength with Ellen's series, as the singer regularly features celebrity guests with a sprinkle of challenges here and there. The 36-year old has big shoes to fill either way, as Ellen has won a total of 30 Emmys since its 2003 debut.
