The hit 2018 South Korean drama Sky Castle is getting a Japanese remake!

Variety reported that the remake follows a deal signed last month between South Korean production company SLL (formerly JTBC Studios) and Japanese network TV Asahi.

"We are delighted to announce the news of a meaningful collaboration following the signing of a partnership with TV Asahi. Starting with the remake of Sky Castle drama series, we will continue to plan, develop, and produce other works that are competitive in the global market," Park Jun-seo, CEO of SLL's production division, said in a statement.

The remake's production is already underway and will begin to air in July. The exact date has yet to be revealed.

Japanese actress and singer Nao Matsushita (Gegege no Honey, Get Ready) will lead the cast alongside Kimura Fumino (Seven Secretaries, Mother Game), Higa Manami (The Detective and The Prosecutor), and Takahashi Merijun.

Meanwhile, Japanese model and actress Koyuki played the role of the university admissions coordinator.

Since its first airing in 2018, the beloved JTBC series has captured the hearts of viewers in South Korea and worldwide, making it one of the most popular K-dramas to date.

The series achieved a 23% non-terrestrial rating at the time of release. At the same time, it bagged the fourth-highest cable TV ratings in Korean history, as per JoongAng Daily newspaper.

The 20-episode original series, which can be streamed via Netflix and Disney+, follows the lives of four women in the upscale SKY Castle neighborhood. These women strive to improve their husbands' success and raise their children in a manner befitting royalty. However, a twist of fate upended their lives when a mysterious accident mingled them.

The Korean version featured a star-studded cast, including Yum Jung-Ah, Kim Hye-Yoon, Lee Tae-Ran, Yoon Se-Ah, Kim Dong-Hee, Oh Na-Ra, and Kim Seo-Hyung, among others.
