Weekend Watchlist: ‘Yaksha: Ruthless Operation,’ ‘Tokyo Vice,’ and more
Netflix’s original South Korean spy action film Yaksha: Ruthless Operations is premiering on Firday (April 8). The film, which stars special inspector Ji-hoon (played by Squid Game‘s Park Hae-soo) revolves around a leader of an espionage agency's secret operation black team, and a prosecutor who was demoted to the espionage agency.
Tokyo Vice, a new original series also premiered on HBO Go earlier this week. Loosely inspired by the 2009 nonfiction book by American journalist Jake Adelstein, the series stars Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) as an American journalist who relocates to Tokyo in the 1990s, becoming the first foreign-born reporter on staff at a major Japanese newspaper.
A veteran detective in the vice squad, played by Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai), takes him under his wing as he starts to explore a dangerous life in the Japanese underworld.
